SANTA CLARITA, Calif – The Master’s College men’s basketball team’s overall record moved to 4-14 overall and 1-9 in GSAC play Tuesday night as the 16th-ranked Westmont College Warriors put on an offensive showcase by defeating the Mustangs 106-83 on Bross Court.

The Warriors jumped out to a 20-7 lead early in the first half, but the Mustangs continued to chip away, bringing the game within two points on a number of occasions.

After closing the first half with a 13-2 run, Westmont ran away from the Mustangs for good in the second stanza as the Warriors coasted to a 23-point victory.

When asked about the team’s loss, TMC head coach Ken Sugarman said, “Westmont shot it in.”

And shot it in they did as the Warriors shot a tremendous 55% (36-66) from the field and 50% (15-30) from beyond the arc.

The 106 points was the most that TMC has given up in a regular-season game during the 2015-16 campaign, and the second most that the Warriors have scored in their season.

Junior guard Reid Shackelford (Murrieta, CA) paced TMC with 23 points, while freshman forward Philip Webb (Georgetown, Cayman Islands) contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Notably, Keegan Scott (Spirit Lake, ID) poured in 20 points after going 8-11 from the field and was also able to make four of his five attempts from beyond the arc. Scott also added two assists and five rebounds

“Keegan came in and really played a special game,” said Sugarman.

Scott’s 20 points was a career-high.

“Even though we are struggling, I still love my guys,” further assessed Sugarman.

Looking ahead, the Mustangs will try to break their 11-game losing streak on Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona, when they take on No. 22 Arizona Christian University. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m. (PST).
