The City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the American Red Cross, Emergency Kits for All (EK4A) and Cal Humanities, is hosting a free Prepare UR Pet workshop to teach residents about emergency planning for pets at the Valencia Library tonight from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Emergency preparedness experts will lead the workshop and teach best practices for pet safety during natural disasters and crisis situations.
Participants will learn how to develop family coordination plans, map emergency shelter locations, and create a pet care buddy system. Pet owners also have the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Los Angeles County Veterinary Public Health Services and Department of Animal Care Control to receive expert advice on health and safety protocols for pets. EK4A will also showcase effective, preparedness supplies that pet owners should always keep on hand to care for their pets during an emergency.
Additionally, the American Red Cross will provide first aid demonstrations for pet owners to learn the proper responses in urgent animal care situations, including cases of pet cardiac arrest or restricted breathing. Participants are advised to leave their pets at home as some emergency demonstrations feature live animals.
Workshop participants will receive a free pet travel water bowl while supplies last and have the chance to win free preparedness products and emergency supplies.
