[LASD] – As the leader for Zone-3 it is my goal to keep you informed of the very latest crime trends and public safety information. The following is a snap shot of the Part-1 crimes reported this past week.
Grand Theft: On July 3rd, an alert deputy, patrolling in the area of Pico Canyon Rd/The Old Rd, observed a vehicle matching the description of one suspected in several high-dollar grease thefts from local restaurants. The deputy followed the vehicle as it pulled in behind a restaurant at the 25400 block of The Old Road, and watched as the suspects began stealing the used cooking grease. The deputy detained the two suspects, determined that they were in fact committing a Grand Theft and placed them under arrest. The investigation is on-going as detectives work to determine if the suspects were involved in any other thefts of this type. Why would they steal used cooking grease? It has become a commodity in recent years, as it is used for Bio Diesel fuel.
A 2011 Toyota Camry was reportedly stolen from the 24900 block of Pico Canyon Road in the evening hours of July 7th.
A Vehicle Burglary was reported at Towsley Canyon Park on Sunday evening, July 8th.
A Vehicle Burglary was reported at the 25500 block of The Old Road on Thursday afternoon, July 5th.
You’re going to love this one: An I-Phone was stolen from a young lady who was recreating at [Six Flags] Hurricane Harbor. The girl’s father immediately activated the tracking feature in the phone and saw that it was moving north of Santa Clarita. When it stopped moving in the City of Shafter CA, the man called the local police department and gave them the exact location of the phone. The Shafter Police promptly arrested the thief and recovered the victim’s phone!
Remember, by continuing to work together we will send a “not in Santa Clarita” message.
