Update from David Perez, AM-1220 KHTS:

Coroner officials have identified Rigoberto Conchas, 52, of Agua Dulce as the driver who died on the scene of a Saturday afternoon collision on Sierra Highway.

An autopsy and toxicology report is scheduled for Tuesday.

Original story:

An Agua Dulce man died and two other men sustained life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon on Sierra Highway.

According to a report from Officer Peter Bishop of the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 5:39 p.m. south of Davenport Road, about 3 miles northeast of Santa Clarita city limits.

Bishop reported that a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling southbound on Sierra Highway when it inexplicably veered directly into the path of an oncoming 2005 Ford F-350 truck.

“For reasons yet to be determined, (the F-150 driver) veered to the left, crossing the double yellow line separating the northbound and southbound lane,” Bishop’s report states. The vehicles were unable to stop in time and they collided.

The driver of the F-150, a 52-year-old man from Agua Dulce, “succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision,” Bishop’s report states.

The F-150 was also carrying a passenger, a 52-year-old Canyon Country man. He sustained major injuries, as did the driver of the F-350, a 58-year-old Agua Dulce man who was alone in his vehicle.

One of the injured men was airlifted to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills and the other was transported by ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.

Sierra Highway was shut in both directions for roughly four hours.  It reopened at about 9:48 p.m.

No estimate of either vehicle’s speed was reported, no arrests were made, and no names have been released as of Sunday at 3 a.m.

My brother was in the big green truck. He has a drain in his brain to relieve the pressure from his contusions. They put a rod in his femer yesterday and 3 pins in his arm. He was coming home after a day at Boxer Rescue LA, walking the dogs. They stopped the heavy sedation on Sunday so he could come back into conciousness. I was hoping that it would be today since his bones have been repaired. The driver of the other truck who drove right into Steve’s lane around that bend was indeed intoxicated and died at the scene. His passenger, also intoxicated, was able to speak at the accident scene, even though he was critical as well.
Please pray for my brother Steve. He is a good man with a wife, family and a kennel full of homeless dogs who adore him. Please God, take his hand and show him the way back to us so that we can help him heal his body and mind.

  6. Sweet water Girl says:

This was another terriblle avoidable crash where people have either lost their lives or their lives have been dramatically changed because another driver has swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a driver head on. Thankfully, Mr Hidey was in a large heavy duty truck otherwise I’m sure there would have been another fatality.

Sad for Mr. Conchas’ faamily that he was killed in the crash and that his passenger was in critical condition as of Wednesday, not to mention an unsuspecting driver was hit head on and in a coma with several compound fractures.

Allegedly, Mr. Concha’s passenger stated that that Mr. Conchas had been drinking beer all day. I truly hope that is not the case.

WOW… where do you get all that info. from?????

      • Rachel Lamb says:

California Highway Patrol. I am sorry for the family and friends of Mr. Conchas, but I am disgusted at the complete lack of responsibility a grown man with children displayed when he chose to get in his vehicle after consuming more than the legal limit of alcohol. There is no excuse or polite way to sugarcoat the situation- it was legally and morally reprehensible. My prayers go out to everyone in the Hidey family and Conchas family who have suffered because of this ordeal.

It also says that SAMUEL ARAIZA the passenger was intoxicated
