Valaika
Former Hart Indians shortstop Chris Valaika is back in the major leagues as the Cincinnati Reds called up the 26-year-old Thursday.
Valaika, a 2003 graduate of Hart High School, has been red-hot of late with the Reds’ Triple-A affiliate, the Louisville Bats. In the last 10 games, Valaika hit .386 with one home run, four doubles and an on-base percentage of .413.
Drafted by the Reds in the third round of the 2006 Major League Baseball amateur draft, Valaika played eight games for the Reds early this season. He hit .313 (5 for 16) with a double, a triple and an on-base percentage of .413.
Valaika joins former Saugus star Tommy Milone in getting called up to the major leagues. Milone, a left-handed pitcher, is set to join the Washington Nationals staff.
Former College of the Canyons pitcher Dana Eveland was also called up by the Los Angeles Dodgers and will start tonight’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
