“M” is for Mother, Mommy, Mom and Mama – but it’s also for so much more.
Like memory-maker, magician and master of mystical folklore,
and messes, meltdowns, master plans and minimizing fright,
and the melodies of lullabies sung softly in the night.
For monsters we run out of from under little beds,
and mushy kisses from little lips returned to little heads.
For mixing and mastering dinner thrown together in a flash,
and M&Ms or mini chocolates snuck from a secret stash.
For make-believe and magic and missions undertaken on a whim,
and murmurs of calm when they’ve fallen from a limb.
For mending broken hearts and making everything okay,
and mastering the promise of tomorrow being a new day.
For maybes, mights, and moments unclear,
and missing them when they are no longer near.
For much much more than I can ever express,
and massive love that has made me a success.
So, for every mom of every sort, may this weekend be full of love and gratitude,
and, teens, just for this one day, please lose the attitude…
…because “M” is for the most challenging job I have ever known.
I’m so grateful I don’t have to do it all alone.
To everyone whose offered support to me or any other mother:
Thank you so much. We can’t do it without each other.
Happy Mother’s Day!
