bicycletrailA ribbon cutting honoring the completion of Phase 3 of the Santa Clara River Trail on Tuesday morning brought about two dozen cyclists to enjoy the new path.

The event was held on the new path on Riverwalk Way in Valencia at 10 a.m.

“Our multi-use trails are important to the residents of Santa Clarita,” said Marsha McLean, Mayor of the City of Santa Clarita. “And actually people come here specifically from other areas in order to use our trails, so we are very very proud of the work that we do.”

The multi-use trail is bicycle, pedestrian and equestrian accessible and provides a way to reach several major destinations in the city.

“My favorite part of this is that we had bicyclists just waiting and ready, raring to go and the minute we cut the ribbon they were able to take off and use it,” said McLean. “And they all said thank you, and that makes us feel really wonderful.”

marshaIn addition to the path, River Village Park is a 24 acre park with a play place for children, restrooms and a large area of grass.

“My favorite thing about the bike trails is they are safe,” said Jeff Soloman, a trail enthusiast. “They are really in a secure area, I don’t really like the idea of being plugged by a car which, has been known to happen.”

  1. Kyle Sullivan gotta hit this trail up wit the bikes

  2. Cathy Duhm Cathy Duhm says:

Is there a link to a map for the trails?

  3. This story is useless without a map showing the location and trail.

    • Not really. I mean, if you didn’t know there was a new phase (I didn’t) then you learned that piece of news here. Sure, a nice little map would be nice – but will the absence of the map right this second keep you from enjoying the trail? More room for me then.

    • A map is key. I cant enjoy it if i dont know where the darn thing is. Not everyone knows where all these places are and not everyone has lived in the SCV for years. Its like saying a new restaurant opened up, but not providing an address.

Go to Central Park maint office or city hall and her one., Central Park has them on the secretary counter

  4. Darlene H. says:

Looks like a beautiful trail to ride. Bikes and horses don’t mix however. A separate equine trail should be considered in the future where appropriate. Can’t wait to ride my bike here though. Nice job SCV.

  5. Is this the area behind the industrial center? I’ll look forward to a follow up story that includes a map of the “phase 3” or extended trail.

  6. Tessa Lucero says:

Go to the city website and look at the list of parks. Obtain the address of this park, which is 24601 Riverrock Way. Plug that into Google Maps. Voila, directions.

For those having trouble taking intermediate steps such as opening another browser window and visiting two or three websites, the park begins at the southwest corner of Newhall Ranch and Santa Clarita Parkway. The trail is at the south side of the park, on the north bank of the river. This is an eastbound continuation of the trail that runs eastward from the southeast corner of Newhall Ranch and Bouquet.

  7. so cal guy says:

Newhall Ranch Road south side of the residential tract between the homes and the Santa Clara River. Connections points begin near Burger King at Bouquet and NHRR for the west side of the trail and taps in to Golden Valley Road near Valley Center Drive. Nice long run next to the river. Enjoy

  8. Santa Clarita has some awesome bike paths!!!

  9. Anonymous says:

When are they going to make a trail from Castaic so i don’t have to ride/cross on the flipping fwy to get to a trail!!!

  10. Tessa Lucero says:

@Anonymous: why would you expect the city of Santa Clarita to build a trail in unincorporated Castaic? Bring the matter up with the county.

Although you can get to the north end of the Iron Horse Trail by riding down the Old Road almost to Rye Canyon and then cutting through the dirt lot next to the reclamation plant. You can ride under the freeway that way. South on Iron Horse to McBean, use the bridge to get to the trail by Bridgeport, and keep going east until you get to the bike path that just opened.

  11. CastaicClay says:

It would be nice if the trail end under The Old Road had a parking lot and a connection to the intersection of Rye Cyn. and The Old Road. I know there is no safe place to ride into the industrial park and that is in the city and they could work on at least adding sidewalks.
