LANCASTER – The Lancaster JetHawks hit three home runs and took an 8-5 lead to the eighth inning, but the San Jose Giants rallied to win the series finale, 9-8, on Sunday night at The Hangar.
San Jose scored two runs in the eighth off Marc Magliaro and a pair in the ninth against Alexander Guillen. Jonah Arenado, who went 4-for-5 in the game, delivered a go-ahead two-run double with the Giants down to their final strike in the ninth. It came on an 0-2 pitch.
Sam Hilliard opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, his 15th of the season and second in as many games.
San Jose surged in front with a five-run third inning. They came up with a pair of two-run homers from Aramis Garcia and Dillon Dobson.
Jethawks Pitcher Jesus Tinoco
The JetHawks scored four in the fourth inning to make it 5-5. Avery Romero highlighted the frame with a three-run homer. Garrett Hampson brought home the other run on an RBI triple. Lancaster followed it up with three-run fifth inning, two coming on a Wes Rogers home run. Roberto Ramos also delivered an RBI double.
Jesus Tinoco tossed six innings for the JetHawks and his only blemish was the rough third. The right-hander allowed five runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out three. Magliaro relieved him and threw a scoreless seventh inning, before running into trouble in the eigth. Guillen (0-6) suffered the loss for Lancaster.
Mark Reyes started for San Jose and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits in five innings. Will LaMarche (4-0) picked up the win with a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. Dylan Rheault earned his 15th save by tossing a perfect ninth and striking out one.
The Giants won despite committing four errors in the contest.
The JetHawks open a seven-game road trip with the first of three against the Lake Elsinore Storm on Monday night. Right hander Brandon Gold (3-0) will start for Lancaster against left-hander Jerry Keel (0-2). First pitch is 6:00 p.m.
