LANCASTER – Lancaster JetHawks right-handed pitcher Jesus Tinoco has been named the California League Pitcher of the Week for August 14-20, according to league officials.
Tinoco, 22, went 2-0 with a 0.73 ERA in two road starts at San Jose and Inland Empire.
The Venezuelan native allowed just seven hits and one earned run in 12.1 innings. He struck out 15 and walked six. His nine strikeouts in six innings against San Jose last Tuesday were a season-high.
This marks the second Pitcher of the Week honor for Tinoco this season and second for the JetHawks as a team.
He earned the award for the week of May 8-14, when he set down the first 20 batters he faced and tossed seven scoreless innings in a win over Modesto on May 11.
Tinoco was signed by Toronto as a non-drafted free agent in 2011 and acquired by Colorado in July 2015 in the Troy Tulowitzki trade. He is 10-4 with a 4.79 ERA this season in 22 starts.
