SAN JOSE – The Lancaster JetHawks dropped the middle game of their three-game series in San Jose, 6-2, to the Giants to on Saturday night at Municipal Stadium.
The clubs played a rubber game on Sunday.
Lancaster (32-23, 65-60) fell behind after allowing a run in the first inning but tied the game in the third on a Steven Linkous RBI-single.
San Jose (19-36, 53-72) answered with three runs against starter Brandon Gold (9-8) in the bottom of the third. All three runs scored with two outs.
Gold would allow another run in the fourth inning. He lasted six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts.
Gold’s counterpart, Giants starter Carlos Sano (4-3), struck out a career-high nine batters over six innings. He gave up one urn on three hits.
Brian Serven hit a solo homer in the seventh inning to bring Lancaster within three. It was his 12th home run of the season and came on the heels of his 3-for-4 performance with a triple and home run in the series-opener. The Giants answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Juan Pena to make it 6-2.
The JetHawks loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth inning but were unable to push across a run. Nolan Riggs entered from the bullpen to record the final two outs and pick up his fifth save.
Manny Melendez went 0-for-4 in the game to end his 13-game hitting streak. He did throw out two runners at home plate in his first multi-assist game of the season.
The series concluded with a rubber game on Sunday at 5 p.m.
