The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has released its public safety and crime information report for Valencia (Zone 5) for Jan. 7-13, 2019.

The following crimes were reported:

01/07/19
Petty Theft: 23000 block of Valencia Boulevard
The victim used the restroom at the location and placed his 380 revolver inside the stall. He exited the restroom and forgot to take his firearm. When he returned to the restroom, his firearm was gone.

Arson: 26000 block of Hollywood Court
A named suspect (local transient) was arrested near the location after a fire broke out inside the business.

01/09/19
Domestic Violence: 24000 block of Del Monte Drive
The victim and her husband were involved in a physical altercation at their residence. The husband was arrested from the location for domestic violence.

01/12/19
Petty Theft: 24000 block of Magic Mountain Parkway
A female suspect was arrested at the location for taking items out of the store without paying for them.

01/13/19
Arson: 25000 block of Via Dona Christa Avenue
An unknown suspect placed a rag in the gas tank of the victim’s car and lit it on fire.

How To Be A Good Witness: Crime Reporting Tips
If you call to report a crime to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, you will be asked several questions. The questions are designed to get the most accurate information necessary to assist deputies with helping a victim and/or in apprehending a suspect.

If you have witnessed or are witnessing a crime in progress, try to remain calm and remember the most important detail is LOCATION. The 911 system provides an address, phone number and resident/business name if the call is from a landline. Cell phones only provide latitude and longitude.

The following tips will help you to be a good witness.

* Location, Location, Location. If you don’t know the exact address, a street name and a hundred block, or closest intersection helps. Landmarks are good for most dispatch staff as well.

* What happened? Was it a crime or an accident? We will ask direct questions to try and ascertain what the deputies will be dealing with at the scene.

* Is anyone injured? Is medical assistance necessary?

* Are/were any weapons involved? If so what kind of weapon(s)? Where is the weapon now?

* Is the suspect still there? Is he/she still in the area? Who is the suspect? What do they look like? The dispatcher will prompt you for a general physical description such as race, height, weight, hair color and clothing the suspect is wearing.

* If the suspect left, try to get a direction of travel. Did they leave on foot or in a vehicle? If they left in a vehicle, try to get a description of the vehicle (ie. color, make, model, body style and license plate). Be sure to note if there was anything unusual about the vehicle (ie. camper, bumper stickers, broken windshield, tinted windows, etc.) The dispatcher will ask for this information and prompt you for answers.
