SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — College of the Canyons offensive lineman Egidio “EJ” DellaRipa will continue his playing career as a Commodore after signing a National Letter of Intent with Vanderbilt University.
DellaRipa, who is a graduate of West Ranch High School, started every game at offensive tackle for the Cougars in 2014.
As a result of his play, the 6-4, 290-pound freshman was named Second Team Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Division, Northern League.
“We are extremely pleased and excited to have EJ joining our football program this season,” said Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason. “EJ’s a talented young lineman who developed tremendously at College of the Canyons. He’s an excellent addition to the 2015 signing class, our offensive line corps, and our entire roster.”
With his signing DellaRipa becomes the 19th member of Vanderbilt’s 2015 recruiting class.
By transferring as a freshman, DellaRipa will enter the program with three years of eligibility remaining. He is scheduled to enroll at Vanderbilt this summer and will be eligible to participate in the upcoming season.
The Commodores will open their 2015 schedule vs. Western Kentucky University on Sept. 5
“EJ’s upside is extremely high,” said COC head coach Ted Iacenda. “Nearly half of his starts this year came as a 17-year-old. He practices and lifts hard every day. He’s the consummate team player.
“He plays with a great motor, and brings both a tremendous pass blocking ability and a physical attitude to the run game,” added Iacenda. “I’m happy for EJ and I’m happy for Coach Mason and Vanderbilt.”
