Stacey Koon, the former LAPD sergeant who was convicted in 1993 of violating Rodney King’s civil rights, will face two misdemeanor DUI counts, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said Thursday.
The charges stem from Koon’s May 1 involvement in a two-vehicle collision in Castaic, after which he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Koon was the only person involved in the collision. His car struck a parked vehicle on Heatherwood Lane and Greenwood Place.
“I can confirm that charges were filed on June 28,” said Ricardo Santiago. “He is charged with one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and driving with a .08-percent blood alcohol content.”
Arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 14 in Dept. 2 of the Santa Clarita Courthouse.
For his involvement in the Rodney King beating, Koon was sentenced to 30 months in prison and was released on Oct. 15, 1995.
