Matt Warner, a parolee at large wanted for questioning for grand theft auto led deputies on a short, but wild chase in Castaic Tuesday morning before jumping out of his car and over a wall, right into custody.
According to Sgt. Daniel Stanley of the Santa Clarita Valley station, deputies spotted Warner, a known parolee at large, when he was driving on the Ridge Route in Castaic.
Knowing he was wanted for questioning in a recent auto theft, they attempted to pull him over, but he hit the gas and sped away, heading up Violin Canyon Road.
The slow-speed vehicle chase, which Stanley said never exceeded 45 MPH, ended when Warner jumped out of the car at the end of Violin Canyon and allowed the vehicle to roll into the shrubbery and into a short cement wall.
He ran about 400 feet and jumped over a wall, but his landing wasn’t so smooth. He fell going over the wall and allowed the waiting deputies to pick him up and put him in handcuffs.
Deputies went back to the Castaic motel room where Warner, a male Caucasian in his late 20s, was allegedly staying, and found methamphetamine and a loaded handgun, which turned out to be stolen. He’s now in custody at the Santa Clarita Valley station, where he remains on a no-bail hold.
