1997 - Five bodies found during grading of Northlake development in Castaic; determined to be Jenkins graveyard [story]
reburial

Stephen Zimpel, who starred on four seasons of “The Outdoor Room With Jamie Durie” on HGTV, is set to appear at the 2015 KHTS Home and Garden Show on April 25 and 26 at the Valencia Hyatt.

HGTV Star To Appear At 2015 KHTS Home And Garden ShowZimpel is one of more than 300 home and garden specialists offering expert advice and guidance to the Santa Clarita community on a variety of topics– including design, decorating, maintenance, solar energy, pool and backyard design, home improvements and much more –throughout the weekend.

Since his final episode of “The Outdoor Room,” Zimpel has established his own business in Santa Clarita, Z Artisan Woodworks, which specializes in custom interior woodwork, design and space saving solutions.

“We had four seasons together and it was absolute insanity, absolutely crazy, but an incredible experience and I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” Zimpel said. “Now that I’ve settled in Valencia, it’s just been a whole new world. It’s been fantastic.”

After inheriting a love of custom work from his father Zimpel decided to dedicate his professional life to fine craftsman work, specifically with interior woodworking.

Zimpel described the majority of Santa Clarita homes as “generally very beautiful, but kind of left to the imagination. They leave the homeowners a lot of opportunities to do really cool things, and that’s where I step in.”

“I love doing this stuff,” he added. “I don’t have to stick to a specific style for myself; whatever (the homeowners) love and are excited about gets me excited too, because to see them happy with what I’ve built in their home– there’s nothing better.”

In addition to stopping by the Z Artisan Woodworks booth to meet Zimpel himself, home and garden show attendees can also browse landscape displays and heavily discounted plants from Santa Clarita nurseries, watch cooking demonstrations, experience the latest local crafts and artwork by local artists, take home a kitten or puppy from an animal rescue organization and more.

Parents can bring their children to a special kids areas presented by Home Depot, courtesy of Honda Performance, which will feature flower pot painting, a toddler race track and race cars on display.

“This year’s show is bigger than ever,” said KHTS AM-1220 co-owner Carl Goldman. “We’ve added many components this year, including a special quilt exhibit, Indianapolis race cars and a Mini Car Rally along with a Home Based Business Symposium on Sunday.”

Attendees can get prepared for an emergency at Saturday’s Emergency Expo, where they can also participate in a variety of fun, safety-related activities like climbing on-board a fire truck, hitting the siren on a sheriff patrol car and watching a demonstration of the “Jaws of Life” by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

KHTS AM-1220 has been producing free Santa Clarita home and garden shows for six years, and expos are owned and produced by KHTS.

This year’s KHTS Home and Garden Show is set to run Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Valencia Hyatt.
