Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives arrested five who are reportedly connected to assisting 27 year old Trenton Trevon Lovell evade arrest after murdering Sergeant Steve Owen in October 5, 2016.
L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Owen. Sergeant Owen was gunned down while on duty, on October 5, 2016, in the city of Lancaster.
On Thursday, January 12, 2017, Homicide Detectives, with the assistance of personnel from Major Crimes Bureau, Operation Safe Streets Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, Emergency Operations Bureau, Lancaster and Palmdale Stations, and the Department of Children and Family Services, arrested five male Blacks reportedly connected to assisting 27 year-old, Trenton Trevon Lovell evade arrest after he murdered Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Owen. Four suspects, 31year-old Lydell Herd, 28 year-old Robert Thomas, 24 year-old Richard Cowley, and 27 year-old Larry Johnson, are residents of Los Angeles. The 5th suspect, 18 year-old Deshawn Peterson, is a resident of Lancaster. All were arrested yesterday, pursuant to arrest warrants, at or near their residences.
Homicide detectives developed undisclosed information that the suspects attempted to help Trenton Lovell evade arrest after he shot Sergeant Steve Owen and held two teens hostage at their home near the shooting scene. Lovell was ultimately arrested outside of the teens’ residence without incident.
A sixth individual, 24 year-old, female Black, Sakina Rashiduddin, of Los Angeles, was also arrested for outstanding warrants during yesterday’s operation.
In addition, Suspect Herd was charged with possession of narcotics for sale, Thomas and Cowley were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, and Johnson with parole violation.
The arrest charges will be brought to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for filing consideration.
The gunman, Trenton Trevon Lovell, remains incarcerated at Men’s Central Jail. He was arraigned for the murder of Sergeant Steve Owen on January 9, 2017, and has a preliminary hearing on February 15, 2017, at Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Court, 42011 4th Street West, Lancaster.
There will be no press conference and booking photos will not be released.
The investigation is ongoing, and there are no further details at this time.
