LANCASTER – Lancaster won in walk-off fashion Thursday night at The Hangar, with Alan Trejo scoring on an Eduardo Rivera wild pitch in the ninth inning to give the JetHawks a 5-4 victory over Inland Empire.
The win – Lancaster’s second walk-off of the season – puts the JetHawks just a game back of first place.
Lancaster (26-28) loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth. Alan Trejo led off with a walk, and Colton Welker followed with a single.
Roberto Ramos was hit by a pitch, prompting Inland Empire to utilize a five-man infield. It wouldn’t see any action, as Trejo scored the winning run on a wild pitch with Willie Abreu at the plate.
Eduardo Rivera (0-2) suffered his second loss of the series. On Tuesday, Lancaster scored four against Rivera in relief to come back and win.
Alexander Guillen (2-1) pitched a pair of scoreless innings to pick up the win. Starter Brandon Gold did not factor in the decision, but he went seven solid innings.
The JetHawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead early. In the first inning, Willie Abreu extended his hitting streak to eight games with a two-run double. Lancaster added two more in the fourth inning.
Inland Empire (27-27) got three back in the fifth inning before eventually tying the game in the seventh. With one out, Jahmai Jones went deep for his second home run in as many nights. The game remained knotted up until the ninth.
The win was Lancaster’s second walk-off of the season. The JetHawks are a game back of the 66ers in the standings with 16 games left in the First Half. Lancaster and Inland Empire play four more times in June before the All-Star Break.
Here’s the box score.
The JetHawks open up a three-game series in Rancho Cucamonga Friday night. Rico Garcia (5-5) takes the hill in the opener against Dean Kremer (3-2). First pitch between the JetHawks and Quakes is set for 7:05 p.m. at LoanMart Field.
