College of the Canyons softball team earned two more conference victories on Tuesday afternoon in Bakersfield, defeating the Renegades 16-3 and 15-8. Canyons improves to 8-8 overall and 5-1 in conference to keep pace with Citrus College (13-6, 5-1).
Game One – Canyons 16, Bakersfield 8
In game one, the Cougars used 14 runs scattered over the third and fourth innings to take care of the Renegades in a mercy-rule game, 16-8.
Third baseman Kori Cochran was a perfect 4-for-4 on the afternoon with a RBI and two runs. Ashley Sandoval-Colon, Karlee Bickford, Alija Ramirez and Milana Casillas all had home runs against Bakersfield’s duo of pitchers.
Morgan Simmons gave up eight hits and three runs to improve her record to 3-4.
Game Two – Canyons 15, Bakersfield 3
The Cougars tallied 10 runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie with Bakersfield College to win 15-8, in the second game of a double header.
In her second game of the afternoon, Simmons (4-4) tossed 8.0 innings, giving up 13 hits and eight runs.
Sandoval-Colon had four hits and two runs, while Bickford turned in three hits and a RBI. Adrianna Correa, Venise Elisara and Kaitlyn Shreves had three RBIs apiece.
Canyons will travel to Santa Monica College on Thursday, March 20 for a 2:30 p.m. game.
