EL CAJON, Calif. – The Master’s College women’s soccer team finished off its regular-season schedule with a 1-0 victory over the San Diego Christian Hawks at El Cajon.
With the win, the 12th-ranked Lady Mustangs not only raised their 2014 record to 12-4-1 (7-2-1 GSAC), but have also secured home field advantage of the first round of the GSAC Women’s Soccer Tournament. TMC’s first-round opponent will be determined on Saturday, November 1.
At the 26:02 mark, Katie Farris (Santa Clarita, CA) scored off an assist from Natasha Coyle (La Habra, CA), putting the Lady Mustangs up 1-0.
While the Lady Mustangs maintained their 1-0 lead at the break, the Hawks outshot TMC 8-6 in the first half.
In a defensive battle that lasted until the end of regulation play, the Lady Mustangs maintained its 1-0 lead by fending off the Hawks relentless shooting attempts. Anchoring TMC’s defense was Tita Garcia (Colorado Springs, CO) who claimed three saves and remained alert until the final whistle blew as the Hawks outshot the Lady Mustangs 4-3 in the second half.
Reporting on the regular-season finale, head coach Curtis Lewis stated, “I’m proud of the team and the way they honored the Lord and served one another.”
While unaware of who they will face in the conference tournament opener, the Lady Mustangs do know that they will get six days to prepare for the beginning of post-season play with hopes of making a strong run at a national championship.
Kickoff for the match will be on Tuesday, November 6, at 2:00 PM at Reese Field.
