LANCASTER – Lancaster was unable to pull back into a first-place tie, as the JetHawks lost, 10-7, to Stockton in the series finale Sunday afternoon at The Hangar.
The JetHawks are a game back of Inland Empire in the standings with 20 games remaining in the First Half.
Lancaster (24-26) started well, going in front, 4-1, through three innings. Jacob Bosiokovic, who had two hits and a season-high 3 RBI, drove in a run in the second inning. Roberto Ramos drilled his 13th home run of the year in the following frame, a two-run shot that put Lancaster on top by three.
Stockton (30-20) turned the game around in the fourth, scoring four times to take the lead. Collin Theroux tied the game with a three-run triple, and he would later score on a groundout to put the Ports up, 5-4.
For the first time this season, Rico Garcia (5-5) could not get through five innings. He left with the bases loaded in the fifth. The Ports scored five times in the inning to stretch their lead to six.
Zack Erwin (4-3) settled down after allowing four runs in the first three innings. The lefty earned the win for Stockton behind six strong innings.
The JetHawks made things interesting with three runs in the seventh to cut the deficit in half. Bosiokovic’s two-run single made it 10-7, but Lancaster was unable to get any closer.
Heath Holder was fantastic in relief. The righty struck out four and retired all seven batters he faced. Holder and Kenny Oakley combined to allow just two unearned runs in 4.2 innings out of the bullpen.
The JetHawks remain one game back of Inland Empire. Lancaster is tied with Lake Elsinore for second place in the South Division, with 20 games against divisional opponents coming up before the All-Star Break.
Lancaster plays eight of those games against Inland Empire, the first of which comes on Monday. Southpaw Ty Culbreth (1-1) is set to start the opener opposite Matt Ball (1-0). First pitch on Memorial Day Monday is at 2:05 pm.
