basketball_clipartFive teams from the Foothill League are headed to the CIF Southern Section boys basketball playoffs.

The West Ranch boys basketball team won the Foothill League championship and earned the No. 3 seed in the CIF Southern Section Division 1A playoffs.

The Wildcats are at home and will play Ventura, which earned an at-large bid out of the Channel League, in the first round of the playoffs on Friday night.

The Valencia boys basketball team, the third-place team from the Foothill League, is the No. 11 seed in the Division 1A playoffs and plays Arroyo Valley in the first round. Arroyo Valley is the second-place team from the San Andreas League.

The Hart boys basketball team is the No. 3 seed in the Division 3AAA playoffs and will play North Torrance in the first round at home. North Torrance is the second-place team from the Pioneer League.

The Canyon boys basketball team earned an at-large bid in the Division 2AA playoffs. The Cowboys will play Lawndale, the No. 8 seed in Division 2AA and the champion of the Pioneer League.

The Saugus boys are in the Division 2A playoffs as an at-large team and faces Redlands East Valley in the first round. Redlands East Valley is the No. 6 seed in Division 2A and the co-champion of the Citrus Belt League.

The Albert Einstein Academy boys basketball team plays Oakwood in the first round of the Division 5A playoffs on Wednesday. Oakwood is the No. 10 seed in Division 5A. Albert Einstein is the champion of the Omega League.

The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team is the No. 2 seed in the Division 6 playoffs and plays Southwestern Academy in the first round on Wednesday.

The Valencia girls basketball team is the No. 8 seed in the Southern Section Division 1AA playoffs. They open at home Saturday night against Pacifica from Oxnard, the second-place team from the Pacific View League.

The Vikings are the co-champions of the Foothill League with Canyon.

The West Ranch girls basketball team plays Highland, the No. 11 seed in the Division 1AA playoffs and the champion of the Golden League.

The Canyon girls basketball team, the No. 6 seed in the Division 2AA playoffs, plays at home against Channel Islands.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the New York Knicks, 102-88.

The Lakers lost to the Miami Heat, 107-97.

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2. Alec Martinez scored his first goal of the season and Anze Kopitar scored his fourth.
