A man was transported to the hospital after he struck and killed a loose horse with his car Thursday at about 9:30 p.m. in Agua Dulce.

According to Tom Magallanes of fire station 81, two horses were loose on Sierra Highway and Sierra Vista Drive late Thursday.

“A horse was on the side of the road and darted out in front of the first car, the van, then was hit,” said Magallanes. “The car apparently went to the side and another car was going the other way and it darted out and was hit again.”

A man in his 20s was driving the second car, a small sedan, and was taken to the hospital due to lower back pain.

The other horse was not struck and sustained injuries after running into a barbed wire fence, according to a Facebook post from the owner of the horses.

This article is written so poorly. How does one drive a small country from North Africa? A four door car is a sedan.

I’m REALLY SORRY to hear about the horses beong loose and someone got hurt (horse probably killed). Unfortunately, MOST people these days ARE NOT having common sense when it. Omes to LATGE (OR SMALLER) ANIMALS LOSE and running around CAN DO SEEIOUS DAMAGE … EVEN DEATH to drivers!!!!
PEOPLE, PLEEEAAAASE BE MORE CAREFUL AND AWARE …. A HORSE WEIGHS ALMOST AS MUCH AS MOST CARS THEAE DAYS!!!! YOU ARE NOT GOING TO WIN :-/
THEY CAN RUN UP TO APPROX 45/MILES PER HOUR AND WHEN HIT BY A MOVING VEHOCLE, ITS NOT, NOT, NOT A PRETTY PICTUFE FOR XRIVER, PAZSENGERS OR … THE HORSE!
PLEASSE BE MORE CATEFUL!!!!!! IF YOU SEE THEM LOOSE, DO MOT try to oitrun them, slow down or stop until they are a safe distance away!!!
Thank you!!!! It MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE, THE HORSESLIFE. (AND YOUR VEHICLE FROM DAMAGE

I know right where that is I use to live in Acton!! I feel awful for the horse and hope the man recovers quickly. I’m not going to speculate as to what might of happened. I miss my Agua Dulce/ Acton peeps.

  8. Ok it was a loose horse… How about the man driving? It’s not like he planned this?!

    • Right! My 3 horses got loose early one morning and next thing I know I’m chasing them down Barrel Springs… Cars flying by not knowing that horses are unpredictable and could veer sideways in front of them at anytime. One of the worst moments of my life! But if one of my horses would have been hit by a car, I would be devastated for the driver… And of course my horse. But most people don’t have a clue how to drive past a horse with a rider… Much less a loose horse. So sad to hear this on all accounts.

  9. Everyone here is saying “Poor Horse” and doesn’t care about the guy that went to the hospital?

  10. Not the first time horses go loose on Sierra hwy at Agua dulce and bumping into cars. :(

  11. Hope the driver wasn’t seriously hurt. Hope the horse is okay

  12. Owners should be held accountable right? Also, I think people are saying “poor horse” bc they rely on their owners to keep them safe from harm. Hope the drivers recover from their minor injuries.

  13. Sandra Holmes says:

Tragic for all parties involved. I hate to see the comments automatically blaming the driver. Although I own horses and have had them get loose from time to time horses do not belong on the road. I myself had one almost get hit in front of my eyes and know how quickly things could have gone wrong. Bad for all involved. Prayers for the drivers recovery and for the horse owners grieving their loss.
