A Castaic woman is reaching out to the community she has been involved with for over 50 years, and asking residents to help rebuild the household her daughter lost.

“I was born and raised here in Santa Clarita, and so was my daughter,” said Dori DiFatta, a local woman who is raising money for her daughter whose house burned down in Ventura.

A fundraiser will be held on Sunday, May 17 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at PapaZ Burgers in Castaic and 20 percent of all dining purchases will go to help cover the cost of relocating and replacing household items lost in the fire.

Jenifer, Jeremy, Caleb and the family's two dogs. The dogs perished in the fire.

DiFatta’s daughter, Jenifer, her boyfriend, Jeremy, and her 6-year-old son Caleb lost their home, furnishings and belongings to a fire caused by a faulty water heater April 23, DiFatta said. Their two dogs also perished in the fire.

“The water heater was installed too close to the wall,” DiFatta said, “Jenifer and Caleb were in the home when the fire began.”

“Losing everything was devastating and we are praying that there are some awesome community folks that will come out and show their support to help get them back on their feet,” DiFatta said.

“We are so unbelievably grateful for the way our community comes together for each other’s wants and needs,” DiFatta said.

PapaZ Burgers is located at 31703 Castaic Road, Castaic 91384.

There will also be a Kleenex commercial being filmed during the fundraiser to raise awareness and document how communities come together for each other, DiFatta said.

Anyone interested in supporting the family can make a donation at this Gofundme page.
