Update as of 1:00 p.m.: Preliminary investigation at the scene of the fatality that occurred at the Newhall Metrolink station Thursday morning around 6:55 a.m., indicates it was accidental. A female adult reportedly was crossing tracks, dropped item, and went to retrieve item when she was struck by a train.
Safety reminder: Any approaching train is always closer and moving faster than you think. Stay alert around railroad tracks and only use designated pedestrian crossings, obeying all warning signs and signals posted. Avoid texting, wearing headphones, or other distractions that could impair alertness.
Original post as of 10:02 a.m.: Metrolink officials have confirmed one person was struck and killed by a train early Thursday morning.
“At approximately 6:55 a.m., there was a fatality that occurred,” said Chris Gutierrez of Metrolink. “Metrolink Train 282, which was bound for Los Angeles, struck a person between Newhall and Sylmar, at the Market Street crossing.”
Gutierrez said no one on the incident train was hurt and passengers were able to transfer on to Train 206 making all the stops into Los Angeles.
Gutierrez also said the incident will cause delays with Metrolink’s schedule.
“The scene is still under investigation with law enforcement and coroner on site,” Gutierrez said. “Trains are being allowed to pass through the area but at reduced speeds, so it’s basically delaying all the trains.”
There is no word yet as to how the incident occurred.

My husband was literally right there at 6:50-6:55 to board his bus and overheard someone talking about someone being hit, but he saw no incident, no sirens etc……how on earth did a couple women witness it and just casually discuss it as they boarded the bus and EMS hadn’t shown up yet? So confused, and it’s so tragic. He didn’t notice any commotion, no screech or train brakes etc. I know that train doesn’t stop at Newhall so I’m guessing it stopped somewhere between Market and where it crosses Railroad? My hubby is shocked and had no idea what those ladies were talking about was right then and not something long passed.
Sounds like your husband is lying. Check his browser history.
