The California State University now serves 460,200 students — the largest and the most ethnically, socially and economically diverse student body in its history. The record-setting enrollment is a testament to the 23-campus system’s mission to provide students with educational access and opportunity.
Enrollment numbers and student demographics are among the data highlighted in the 2015 CSU Fact Book, which compiles systemwide data on students, staff, campuses and academic programs from fall 2014 and the last academic year.
2015 CSU Fact Book highlights include:
CSU students are more successful than ever: Even though the CSU serves 48,000 more students than it did just five years ago, students are more successful than ever. Today, graduation rates are at an all-time high and the CSU awards more than 100,000 degrees annually. In 2013-14, the CSU conferred 103,637 degrees—an increase of 2,428 from the previous year.
The CSU serves more students than ever: The CSU set a new record for enrollment for the fourth consecutive year. The system now serves 460,200 students—an increase of 13,670 from the previous year and nearly 48,000 more than in 2010.
CSU students are more diverse than ever: The CSU continues to reflect a diverse California, with students of color making up more than half of the student body. Latino enrollment increased approximately seven percent to a record 160,001 students and now comprises 34.8 percent of the student body.
More CSU students receive financial aid than ever: In 2013-14, nearly 338,000 CSU students received financial aid and 77 percent of undergraduate financial aid recipients had their tuition fees fully covered. One-third of CSU’s undergraduates are first in their families to attend college and nearly half are Pell recipients.
