The race to qualify for the Big West Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament continues for CSUN this week with a home match against UC Riverside Wednesday night before the Matadors head to UC Irvine Saturday.

CSUN-UC Riverside is set for 7 p.m. In addition to a live stream on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health, Wednesday’s match will feature a Spanish language simulcast. Eduard Cauich and Jose Avalos will be on the call that can be found on GoMatadors.com. Wednesday is also Faculty Appreciation Night as all CSUN Faculty and Staff who attend the match will get in free with their CSUN ID.

After losing 10 in a row to begin the season, UC Riverside has won two of its last three including a 2-1 decision at home against Cal State Fullerton last Saturday night.

Antonio Lokossou leads UC Riverside in goals (3) and is tied for the team lead in points (6) with Anthony Lopez. Lopez has scored two goals and has two assists this season. UCR goalie Vincent Morales is tied for the Big West lead with Cal Poly’s Simon Boehme in saves with 62. Morales has played every minute in goal this season for the Highlanders.

This is the 37th meeting between the two clubs with CSUN leading the all-time series 24-5-7. The Matadors swept the season series from the Highlanders a year ago and have won four in a row in the series dating back to the 2014 season. The Matadors travel to the Highlanders Oct. 28 in the final match of the regular season for CSUN.

The second meeting between the Matadors and the Anteaters is set for a 7 p.m. start. Coverage from UC Irvine can be found men’s soccer schedule page on GoMatadors.com.

Daniel Trejo scored a pair of goals to lead CSUN past UC Irvine 3-2 last Saturday night. The Matadors’ victory over the Anteaters allowed CSUN to tie UCI for the lead in the Big West’s South Division. Cal State Fullerton is third in the South with seven points followed by UC Riverside with six. The top three in the division advance to the Big West Tournament.

Giovanni Godoy posted both goals for the Anteaters last Saturday to raise his Big West leading total to 11. Godoy has added two assists for a league leading 24 points. Ivan Canales is second in the league in goals (7) and points (17). UCI goalie Alex Waldron is 5-4-3. He sits in a tie for second with CSUN’s Henrik Regitnig in the Big West with a 1.11 goals against average. His. 746 save percentage is the fourth best in the league while his 47 saves are tied for fourth in the conference (with James Del Curto of Sacramento State).

This is the 51st meeting between the two clubs with CSUN leading the all-time series 23-21-6. CSUN has won two in a row in the series.
