For the second straight year, Becker’s Hospital Review, a popular health care publication, was named on Wednesday Providence Holy Cross among the nation’s Top 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare.
Of the 89 hospitals included in the health care industry poll, Providence Holy Cross was one of just seven in California and the only hospital in Los Angeles and Ventura counties to make the list.
With nearly 2,400 employees and more than 700 physicians on staff, Providence Holy Cross was recognized for workplace excellence, as well as for the benefits offered, wellness initiatives and efforts to improve professional development, diversity and inclusion, work-life balance and a sense of community among employees.
“Providence Holy Cross is truly a great place to work because it’s filled with great people,” said Bernard Klein, M.D., the hospital’s chief executive. “A long tradition of teamwork, compassion, support for one another and genuine kindness is ingrained in this ministry. It’s infectious. Working in a culture like this makes you a better person.”
The hospital was noted not only for the health care benefits it provides, but for offering employees recreational, cultural and wellness programs, a tuition assistance program and a support program for new hires. In the 2016 employee engagement survey, 92 percent said they were proud to work at Providence Holy Cross and felt a sense of purpose in their work.
This high level of satisfaction has paid off. In January, Providence Holy Cross was awarded Healthgrades’ Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award for the fourth straight year, ranking it among the top 5 percent of the nation’s hospitals for quality. Today the hospital also is celebrating it renewal as the only Magnet Hospital serving the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys, a national designation acknowledging nursing excellence.
The Becker’s list of Great Places to Work features both U.S. health care provider organizations, such as hospitals, health systems, ambulatory surgical centers and home health agencies, as well as other types of healthcare-specific companies, including consulting firms, health information technology vendors and medical societies. This list has been published every year since 2011.
