Santa Clarita, CA — Just days away from opening play in the GSAC Tournament, The Master’s College has landed four players on the 2015 men’s soccer all-conference squad presented by Under Armour.
Headlining the quartet of Mustangs are a couple of repeaters, junior Zach Klindworth and sophomore Humphrey Mahowa, while seniors Scott Landon and Joey Mikulas join their teammates as first-time choices.
For Klindworth (Valencia, CA) it was his third consecutive selection, making him only the third Mustang in program history to be so named. The local product (Valencia HS) affirmed his status as one of the country’s premier passers, pacing the Mustangs and the GSAC in assists (7) for the third straight season. Klindworth scored four goals to go along with his assists, finishing fourth on the team with 15 points.
On the receiving end of some of those assists was the electrifying Mahowa (Lilongwe, Malawi), who tied for the conference lead with 12 goals (led the GSAC last year with 13) and finished second in scoring with 28 points (paced the GSAC last year with 29). Four of those goals were match-winners, tying with three others for the GSAC lead.
Turning the ball up the field to Klindworth, Mahowa, and others was the responsibility of Mikulas (Monument, CO) whose recognition was well-deserved after controlling the midfield for the Mustangs for much of the past four years. Known for his punishing style of play, Mikulas also became a lethal offensive threat with an air game that produced a trio of goals, none bigger than his header that beat GSAC regular-season champion Biola in double-overtime on October 24.
Meanwhile, Landon (Northridge, CA) spearheaded a defense that held opponents to a stingy 0.95 goals-against average, the third-best mark in the conference. Completing his second and final season after transferring to The Master’s, Landon also found time to tack on two assists.
Now, this foursome will lead the fourth-seeded Mustangs, who tied Biola for the most players on the squad, into the GSAC quarterfinals on Friday when they’ll host San Diego Christian in a 2:00pm start on Reese Field.
