The Golden Valley and Canyon boys cross country teams are entered in the 45th annual Staub/Barnes Invitational at Crescenta Valley Park this weekend.
The cross country meet attracts some of the top programs in Southern California. Host Crescenta Valley is ranked No. 9 in the state in Division I. Golden Valley is ranked No. 7 in Division II and Del Campo is 10th.
The Canyon, Golden Valley and West Ranch girls teams are also entered in the meet. West Ranch is ranked No. 10 in the state in Division I. The Arcadia girls are also entered in the meet and are ranked No. 8 in Division I.
In girls volleyball, Foothill League play begins today with reigning league champion Saugus at home against Valencia.
Saugus ended a 17-match losing streak against Valencia last year and won its first league title since 2001. The Centurions were undefeated at 10-0 in league play in 2011.
The Hart girls host West Ranch. Canyon travels to play Golden Valley.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls play Lancaster Baptist.
In girls golf, Valencia has a match against Granada Hills at Hansen Dam in Sylmar today.
In college soccer, The Master’s College men lost to Biola, 1-0. Biola, the No. 17 team in the NAIA, scored in 60th minute off a throw in.
In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Padres, 8-2, to stay alive in the wild-card race for another day.
The Dodgers conclude their series against the Padres in San Diego tonight.
