1929 - Swift justice: Thomas Vernon sentenced to life in prison for Saugus train derailment & robbery 1 month earlier [story]
Tom Vernon

[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a suspect in a Walmart assault case Monday morning, officials said.

santa-clarita-deputies-search-victim-walmart-parking-lotCory Allen Flenory, 28, of Valencia, was arrested on the 28100 block of McBean Parkway on Monday morning.

He was arrested at 7:53 a.m. at his home, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

“It started with an informant contacting the station,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “Deputies and detectives responded to an address to investigate.”

Flenory allegedly tried to kick out the window of a patrol car and was pepper-sprayed during his arrest, officials said.

He’s in custody on a mayhem charge, which carries a much stiffer penalty than assault with a deadly weapon, officials added.

The suspect’s vehicle was a small, bright gold Nissan Juke, not a Kia as has been reported.

KABC-TV interviewed the victim in the hospital, and the car she was in reportedly swerved to avoid another car in the Walmart parking lot, near The Old Road and Pico Canyon Road.

A confrontation ensued, and the suspect reportedly pulled out a weapon and shattered the passenger window of the car the victim was in, where she was sitting. The victim was in surgery for seven hours to repair damage to her eye, according to a KABC report.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Painter at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.

KABC-TV contributed to this report.
