crime[KHTS] Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are searching for an attempted kidnapping suspect who allegedly grabbed a 13-year-old girl while she was walking to school Tuesday morning in Valencia.

At approximately 7:50 a.m., the girl, identified as an eighth grader at Arroyo Seco Junior High, was walking to school and a man, described as a white male in his 50s, was walking on the other side of the street, said Shirley Miller, public information officer for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The man crossed the street and started asking the girl basic questions and made small talk, Miller said.

“She told him she didn’t have time to talk and started walking faster,” said Miller. “(The man) then grabbed her arm.”

The girl was able to break away, ran home and reported the situation to her mother, who then contacted the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, said Miller.

“We had deputies canvas the area looking for this individual, (however they were) unable to locate anyone,” Miller said, noting that deputies also searched parks and pulled up a list of registered sex offenders in the area, which both yielded negative results.

Miller described the man as 5’7”, 170 pounds, wearing a blue baseball cap and “was unshaven, or possibly had a goatee.” The victim also noted that the man also had a dark complexion.

Any witnesses to the incident are being asked to contact Sgt. Ron Price with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Detectives Bureau at (661) 255-1121.

School resource deputies have also been notified, Miller said.
