Less than 24 hours after lightning strikes, brushfires at College of the Canyons and in Castaic, and a heat-driven thunderstorm, a fire at a Stevenson Ranch apartment complex early Friday morning claimed 20 units and displaced 26-35 people, according to officials.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze at 4:54 a.m. and stayed on the scene to mop up.
No word on what caused the blaze. The American Red Cross is on the scene aiding displaced residents.
As of 5:45 a.m., Constitution Avenue was closed in both directions between Pico and The Old Road. Officials did not anticipate Pico Canyon Elementary would be affected when school opened this morning.
Firefighters first responded to the Parc Chateaux apartment complex around 1 a.m. Friday regarding a structure fire at 24979 Constitution Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, a balcony was “fully engulfed,” according to officials. It quickly spread to the attic and threatened surrounding structures.
