dmv_newsThe California Department of Motor Vehicles released preliminary statistics Tuesday on the progress of implementing Assembly Bill 60 (AB 60) – the new law requiring DMV to issue a driver license to applicants who can prove identity, California residency, and can meet all other testing requirements.

Daily Totals:

11,100 – Number of Driver License applicants seen on Saturday, January 3, 2015

17,200 – Number of Driver License applicants seen on Friday, January 2, 2015
Total number of AB 60 applicants seen since Friday, January 2, 2015: 46,200

The following Statistics are from Friday, January 2, 2015:

Pass/Fail Statewide Average for English Tests: 54% Pass/46% Fail

Pass/Fail Statewide Average for Spanish Tests: 36% Pass/64% Fail

Pass/Fail Average for the four (AB60) Driver License Processing Centers: 36% Pass/64% Fail

Total number of applicants to receive a driver license: 970

The DMV will release updated AB 60 statistics each Tuesday.

The DMV has a helpful AB 60 information webpage, ab60.dmv.ca.gov, containing a complete list of acceptable documents that can be used to verify identity and residency, a copy of the driver handbook, sample knowledge tests, appointment information, and other helpful materials.

Anyone applying for a first time driver license is required to make an appointment, unless they plan on visiting one of four Driver License Processing Centers where walk-in customers are accepted.  Online appointments can be scheduled as far as 90 days in advance at www.dmv.ca.gov or by calling
1-800-777-0133.

  1. Imagine that. Now we’ll hear about how the test will be rewritten to accommodate them. ..or interpreters will be provided.

This is funny…. Its because the new computerized tests haven’t been converted to Spanish yet (maybe they have by now) When i was working at a trucking school 90% of the students who speak Spanish only were failing the new computerized test because it was only in english

  5. Of course…they didn’t take driver training like us US citizens have to do!

WOW, REALLY???? What a big surprise seeing them all over the freeways, I could have told you that was going to happen. And you know what, they are STILL going to drive – isn’t that fabulous! Brilliant idea politicians. Whatever, when they kill someone the rest of us tax paying suckers will just pay for it like we always have..

    • Why are you saying they don’t pay taxes, just FYI 95% of them pay taxes using a number issued by the IRS, if your tax agent is qualified or authorized ask what a ITN means, Facebook is not the right place to get educated
By the way You dont deserve to own a pet you have so much hate in your heart pets are for good people

    • Where are you getting your numbers from? Please cite your source.

    • Teresa Marie says:

whatever, Jorge! I love animals because people like you are so stupid! Have a nice day and screw off!

    • Teresa Marie says:

Wow, Jorge, really? I don’t give a crap if they pay taxes or not. They should not be here and they should not be driving! Whether a portion of them pay taxes or not, it is still costing the legal tax payers something. And the animal comment – wow, you are so off base. I love animals because of idiots like you, animals are much easier to understand than idiots like you spouting nonsense. And you think pets are for good people – maybe you could go across the street from where I live and educate the animal abusers there, who happen to be hispanic. I hope you are not reproducing and passing your idiot genes on.

    • Teresa Marie says:

Jorge, please don’t reproduce. To make a comment about my pet and make a personal attack like that just makes me realize why I do love animals so much and try to stay away from humans like you. I don’t enjoy my hard earned money paying for those illegals that don’t pay taxes, even if it’s only 5% of them with as many as there are here in California, that is still money coming out of my pocket.. even though I’m sure your numbers are way off base. As an animal rescuer, you are not worth one more second of my time.

  9. Lol come on guys
Why you gotta be so racist

    • Where do you get “racist”?

    • Everyone picking on one race

    • Racist is not picking on one race. Racism is excluding, or hating someone because of their race. In this particular case, we are discussing the flagrant waste of taxpayers dollars for a program that is already a failure.
It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with where money is going, and why.
In Mexico, if and American citizen wants to live there, does the Mexican government pay for their housing, educate their children in English, and prepare everything in a fashion that suits the American’s culture?
      I know this answer: NO.

    • What I’m just saying why even care
Someone is benefiting from all this and is not us
Government just lie to us all the time so just let the people get what they want
      And let them be
And its not just Mexican people is all undocumented immigrants

    • Cruz says:

Everyone who applies for this driver’s license has to pay a fee, many undocumented immigrants already pay taxes with ITIN numbers. If they keep failing more times that means more money for the DMV

    • BECAUSE LEAGEL US TAX PAYERS ARE PAYING FOR EVERYTHING FOR THEM!!!! H

    • Susan Burg says:

OK guys. Think about this. First, it’s not racist. Second, they are not being told they need to take drivers training which is a HUGH mistake. Third, why do we need to print the test in Spanish or any other language? Shouldn’t you learn the language of the country your in or is it acceptable for your seven year old to translate for you when you get pulled over by a cop. How are they going to monitor whether they actually have car insurance? There’s a lot more going on with this issue.

    • The test comes in different languages
People are failing because they choose not to study
And learning a new language is hard on some people
But yeah they should at least try to learn it
And car insurance most likely they have you don’t need a license to be insured
And plus those police cars can see if you’re insure just by running your plates

    • Cruz says:

yeah it isn’t easy to take a test in another language. My spanish sucks, If I had the choice of taking a test in english or spanish, I’d choose english, because its the language I’m more comfortable with.

  10. They have the test in many languages. People fail because they don’t study

  11. Michelle Lea says:

Make them take those test just like all of us Americans, if they can’t pass it all well. Make them do everything like us Americans, I don’t care what country they come from. If we went to these other countries we would have to do things those countries ways. I am just speaking the facts.

  12. There is a app for that

  13. Chris Kirk says:

If the tests are in different languages, the study material is, too. There is no excuse for this amount of failure, on so many levels.

  14. Remand this bill. This is un American!

  15. Well when you can’t immigrate legally, it’s only logical you fail at everything else.

    • Haha another paisa that is racist to their own people, and I can see the nopal on your face

    • I’m sure it’s racist to think people should follow laws of a country.

    • I agree Ferman some people get a work permit and don’t speak Spanish anymore, but still a Paisa, lol

    • Christy thats exactly what this people is trying to do, getting a licence to follow laws, you would do the same, and you probably got lucky when your parents or even probably you got papers, so stop the racist comments cause you look really bad being a paisa and being racist to your people

    • Christy, following laws is what makes for a good citizen, which does not make you racist for thinking people should follow laws. It’s very ignorant to say “you are racist because you think the many races of people who are breaking laws should follow them” I think the rest of us law abiding citizens , no matter our race will happily agree with you:)

    • Illegal immigrants aren’t my people just because I have a Hispanic last name. Please don’t group us together. My family immigrated legally to Ellis Island in 1898. My husband’s family from Spain also in 1910. So these people are not my people. Americans ARE my people! Following laws of a country make you moral, getting what you want without earning it makes you a criminal.

    • Ure parents there not from here!!!!! Don’t think ure a Native American just because u where born here…christy (Fernan

    • You can say all you want, your blood belongs to a Hispanic and at some point you are also a criminal for having that kind of blood, you are just a white wanna be and i can see a big nopal on your face, that would never change

    • It’s too difficult arguing with the uneducated. Leaving thread. Advice: do something legally for a change!

  16. I think if you cannot comprehend enough to pass a basic test that most 16 year olds can pass, then you shouldn’t be behind the wheel to begin with…

  17. Come on now? You is people so racist? Even amarican citizens (born and raised) fail the test a big percentage of the time

  18. So sad to see all these racist comments smh

  19. Why r ppl so sprung up on them failing drivers test when plenty of ppl who do take the test and actually pass still drive with fear of other liscensed drivers texting and driving or something like drunk driving…now those are the people who we need to do something about

  20. This whole thing is very frustrating! You can’t even get an appt anymore at our own DMV because they are overrun with AB60 applicants. And
Try to go to Simi and the wait is 2 plus months for the first available appt! So much about this is so very wrong!

  21. Cruz says:

This has been SCVTV’s favorite story run for the past week, most likely because it causes so much heated debate. They like the attention it has created, for example Hispanics calling others racist, conservatives saying ignorant things. We humans are terrible!

  22. When is breaking Federal Law racist Veronica?

  23. Mitch Adams says:

It would suck to have to go to the DMV right now. Kari, you missed the narrative, “the test is racist”.

  24. What else are we gonna hand them for free? Yes we are all human, but the American citizens are getting screwed again! When was the last time you saw a road sign in AMERICA that was written in Spanish? If you can’t read, write, or speak English you should go to school. We need to stop catering to other countries problems and fix our own. Peace

  25. Wendy Reed says:

80% RENEWAL testers in Spanish in California fail the test. So this should not be a headline. By statistics, these illegal immigrants are testing BETTER than American citizens. Because math.

  26. Has anyone received a car insurance bill recently with an increase? I’m wondering if those of us that are insured will be paying for those that are not.

  27. David Shirey says:

One of those illegal A – holes almost killed me in a head on accident. My life has been practically ruined since. My brother was murdered by an illegal alien. We should deport every one of them.

  28. Wendy Reed says:

We were paying for uninsured before. Now they will have insurance.

  29. Wendy Reed says:

We were paying for uninsured before. Now they will have insurance.
