The Master’s University has hired Dave Caldwell as its next sports information director.
Caldwell brings considerable experience in communications and sports media to his role at TMU, where he’ll write stories, curate record books, rosters and schedules, and serve as the primary media contact for each of the school’s 17 intercollegiate teams.
Since 2015, Caldwell has served as the public relations officer for the William S. Hart School District, where he was tasked with handling all internal and external communications, serving as the district’s lead spokesperson.
Prior to that, Caldwell served for nearly eight years as an anchor and producer at SCVTV in the Santa Clarita Valley. He has also worked as a play-by-play commentator for Fox Sports West, ESPN and The Master’s University.
Caldwell has been the lead play-by-play announcer on TMU’s livestream for a variety of its teams for the past 11 years. Those experiences — and specifically the “high character of the coaches and athletes” — influenced Caldwell’s decision to take a full-time position at TMU.
“To now work alongside those same people every day, growing in our faith and serving the Lord together is the greatest gift,” Caldwell said. “I’m thankful for this opportunity.”
TMU Athletic Director Chris Beck said he’s thankful to have someone with Caldwell’s experience in the role of sports information director. Before SCVTV, Caldwell was the sports editor at The Signal Newspaper and the sports director for KHTS AM-1220, roles that should help him in expertly highlighting TMU’s athletic teams and in organizing and leading students who will work in the sports information department.
“I’m excited to see how the Lord is going to use Dave to advance the mission of TMU,” Beck said. “We’re thrilled to have him.”
