Saugus High School junior Abbey Weitzeil set three national high school swimming records at the CIF Southern Section Division 1 swimming finals at Riverside Community College.
Weitzeil set new marks in the 50-yard freestyle (21.98), 100-yard freestyle (47.91), and then the opening leg mark (47.82) of the 4 X 100 free relay.
Amazingly, her record marks in the 100-yard freestyle are not her fastest times.
“I’ve gone a 47.5 (at a club meet in Texas) and my goal was to go 46,” Weitzeil told the Los Angeles Daily News. “So that still pushes me to get there.”
Valencia freshman Nikol Popov won two CIF titles in the Riverside pool: the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.17) and 200 Individual Medley (1:59.90). The wins were the first individual championships in Valencia High School history.
Hart took seventh overall in the girl’s team competition. Tamara Santoyo finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (53.75) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (23.36).
