[CLWA] – What’s your H2O Solution?
That’s what the Castaic Lake Water Agency is asking residents via a contest in which citizens of all ages can submit imaginative ways to use water efficiently and get a chance to win prizes including a front yard sustainability makeover worth up to $5,000, courtesy of Stay Green Inc.
“We’re always looking for great ways to maximize water use efficiency, and sometimes the best ideas come from residents,” said Stephanie Anagnoson, Water Conservation Program Coordinator for CLWA. “This contest invites everyone to promote the efficient use of our precious resources. The winning ideas will be shared with the community to help everyone use water wisely.”
Entering is simple: Create a solution that enables people, institutions or businesses to use water efficiently. Entries will be judged by focus groups and CLWA staff, and residents will be invited to vote online.
Entries can be submitted at www.myh2osolutions.orgstarting March 1, and the deadline is April 15. Entries can also be mailed to: What’s Your Water Solution? Castaic Lake Water Agency, 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91350. The contest is open to residents of the CLWA service area.
Winners will be announced May 5 at the CLWA Open House and a list of winners will be posted on www.clwa.org. Prizes will be awarded in several categories: grades K- 6, grades 7-12, adults, families and seniors.
The grand prize, courtesy of Stay Green, is a sustainability makeover for the winner’s front yard.
“We’re excited by this opportunity to spread the word about sustainable landscaping,” said Chris Angelo, President and Chief Executive Officer of Stay Green Inc., a Santa Clarita-based company that provides award-winning landscape services. “With the new technologies that are available, along with smart plant selection, residents can make their landscaping a great deal more water-efficient.”
The makeover will be tailored to the winner’s yard and may include equipment such as high-efficiency nozzles and a weather-based irrigation controller. Stay Green’s sustainability experts will evaluate the property and create a sustainable landscape design, using techniques such as replacing high-water-using plants with more efficient ones.
Anagnoson hopes the contest gets people talking — and thinking — about using water efficiently. “It’s a fun way to tackle the fact that our water resources are finite, and need to be managed with care. We’re asking everyone, ‘What’s your solution?’ and we can’t wait to see the imaginative solutions people create.”
