Assemblyman Scott Wilk, who was sworn in Monday to his first term in California’s Legislature, found out the same day he would be named vice chair of the Assembly’s Rules Committee.
There are also plans in the work for a bill to help higher education, which has been a cause that the former member of COC’s governing board has long championed.

Press release, Dec. 6:
Assemblyman Wilk Takes Oath of Office,
Appointed Vice Chair of Rules Committee
Vows to Work Across Party Lines to Improve Schools and Economy
SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, took the oath of office Monday, becoming the new representative for the 38th Assembly District in Sacramento, pledging to help get his constituents back to work, improve our schools and take on the difficult issues facing California. During the session, the Speaker of the Assembly, John A. Perez appointed Wilk to serve as Vice Chair of the Rules committee for the 2013 legislative session.
“Taking the oath of office to represent the people of the 38th Assembly District is an incredible honor and one that I do not take lightly. I am committed to fighting for better schools, more jobs, and creating a culture of fiscal discipline that doesn’t currently exist in California. We can and must do better,” Assemblyman Wilk stated.
The Assembly Rules Committee acts as the executive committee of the lower house. One of its most important functions is to refer all bills and resolutions to the appropriate Standing Committee. It also grants rule waivers or suspensions and handles all personnel matters.
“The future of California can be a bright one. We can improve our schools, fully fund public safety, and improve the business climate so that all Californians who want a job can have one. No one will work harder than I will to make this future a reality,” Assemblyman Wilk said.
The 38th Assembly District encompasses Simi Valley, the northwestern communities of the San Fernando Valley, and most of the Santa Clarita Valley.
