College of the Canyons hosted L.A. Valley College for a Western State Conference game on Tuesday, winning by a 10-2 score in six innings to give the Lady Cougars a sixth straight win.
Sierra Boyajian started Canyons out with an RBI to put the Cougars up 1-0 in the first.
By the end of the third inning, Canyons was up 5-0 with the help of Valerie Rivas and Alondra Torres, who each recorded two RBIs.
In the top of the fourth L.A. Valley’s Leslie Arreola homered allowing Ashley Acosta to score and making it a 5-2 COC lead.
Apart from Arreola’s home run, L.A. Valley only had two other hits. Canyons starting pitcher Kaitlyn Post (W 7-3), controlled the game facing 21 batters.
Canyons (18-10, 8-2) went on to score another run in the fourth brought in by Rivas’ double to left field. Rivas finished the game 3-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.
The Cougars scored three more runs in the fifth beginning with Kayla Yamane‘s infield ground-that allowed Brianna Vazquez to score.
Later in the inning, Natsuki Kameyama came home to score on a passed ball. Boyajian then stepped up to the plate and doubled to left field to cap the scoring at 9-2. The sophomore from Hart High School finished the game 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Canyons tacked on a final run in the sixth inning with a bunt single that allowed Micayla Aguilar to score after an infield error by the Monarchs (17-10, 6-4).
