Strong southerly winds will continue in advance of a cold front that is marching into Los Angeles county this morning. There will be 60 to 70 mph gusts in the Los Angeles and Ventura mountains, as well.
These winds along with the snow are handled by a winter storm warning. Behind the front winds are decreasing and advisories are expiring.
Los Angeles County Coast including Downtown Los Angeles, Santa Clarita Valley, Los Angeles County San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley, including the cities of Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Long Beach, Santa Clarita, Newhall, Valencia, Woodland Hills, Northridge, Burbank, Universal City, Pasadena, San Gabriel, and Pomona.
Wind advisory remains in effect until Noon today.
* Wind and timing: Southeast to south winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph will continue through midday today.
* Impacts: Gusty winds will make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Precautionary/Preparedness actions:
When driving, use extra caution. Be prepared for sudden gusty cross winds.
Flash Flood Watch
While the recent burn areas are most threatened and should be emphasized, flash flooding is possible nearly anywhere in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties through this evening.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected through this evening with periods of very heavy rain. Rainfall rates between one half and one inch per hour are possible. Such rain rates are capable of producing flash flooding. Recent burn areas will be especially vulnerable where dangerous mud and debris flows are possible. Los Angeles County Coast including Downtown Los Angeles- Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area-Los Angeles County Mountains excluding the Santa Monica Range-Santa Clarita Valley-Los Angeles County San Fernando Valley- Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley, including the cities of Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Long Beach, Acton, Mount Wilson, Sandberg, Santa Clarita, Newhall, Valencia, Woodland Hills, Northridge, Burbank, Universal City, Pasadena, San Gabriel, and Pomona
Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening.
The Flash Flood Watch continues for:
* A portion of southwest California, including the following areas, Los Angeles County Coast including Downtown Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Mountains excluding the Santa Monica Range, Los Angeles County San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area.
Through this evening:
* Rainfall rates of half inch to one inch per hour are expected.
* Rainfall of this intensity can produce dangerous flash
flooding. Mud and debris flows near recent fires are of
particular concern…especially the La Tuna, Creek, Sand, and
Fish burn areas.
Precautionary/Preparedness actions:
Flash flooding and debris flows will be a particular threat in and below the recently burned areas.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Southern California residents, in or below the recently burned areas are urged to take the steps necessary to protect their property. Persons in the watch area should remain alert and follow directions of emergency preparedness officials.
