Snapshot for the Week of 07/02/2012 through 07/08/2012
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station
Crime Prevention Unit
[LASD] – This (past) week, crime remained low with only 15 serious crimes (part-1) reported for the Valencia Area. Of these reports, a majority were shoplifting reports taken from various businesses in the area. The seven arrests made at those locations indicate the suspect/subject concealed the merchandise on their person, or in large purses. Most of the suspects/subjects arrested, reside within the Santa Clarita Valley. The statements made to the Deputies were, “I thought I could get away with it” and “I heard stealing was easy to do here.”
Thieves beware, shoplifters will be arrested for stealing no matter what the dollar amount is and most businesses will be desirous of prosecution.
With the opening of fitness centers in the Valencia area, I urge you to please continue to be cautious with securing your personal belongings in your vehicle and in the locker rooms. Most thefts from vehicles occur while the victim is in the gym. Items stolen are typically visible from the vehicle and can be taken quickly by smashing the window. The thefts occurring in the locker room have occurred while the victims are working out. The locks tampered with have been combination locks.
Please do not become a victim! Secure all personal belongings by not leaving your valuables visible in your vehicles. Please roll up all windows and lock all doors before leaving your vehicle whether it’s parked in your driveway or not. Do not take valuable items (money, watches, jewelry or cell phones) with you to the gym. If you must bring the items, lock the personal items in the trunk of your vehicle prior to entering the location.
Report all suspicious activity by calling the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding Valencia (Zone 5), please feel free to contact me at 661-799-5164 or email me at rmyost@lasd.org. It is my goal to keep the residents of Valencia informed and educated on current crime trends, so that they may protect themselves from becoming a victim.
Remember, by continuing to work together we will send a “not in Santa Clarita” message.
