[FCSC] – With key players unable to make the trip to Eureka, Calif., the Futbol Club Santa Clarita Storm displayed the depth of its roster well this weekend as newly signed Jorge Serrano and Rafael Funtes got on the board, along with Alex Harrley in a 3-1 win over the Tsunami.

North Coast Tsunami were overshadowed by a Storm that moved in from the south late Friday night. The Santa Clarita Storm rolled in for a 1 p.m. game Saturday afternoon that only took 1:14 into the game to get on the score board. Martin Glavan worked the ball down field to the 18 yard line, and just as it got away from Martin his brother Richard Galvan was supporting and slid a pass to Jorge Serrano who quickly slipped it passed the Tsunami goalkeeper Sergio Guerrero to take the lead 1 – 0. The storm completely controlled the first half with 2/3 possession from whistle to whistle. However in the 22nd minute on a miscue in the Storm defense, the Tsunami took advantage and evened the score with there only opportunity of the half.

The next 45 minutes began with some of the same, with the Storm in control. As the second half progressed the game started to get chippy. The in the 70th minute Rafael Funetes entered the game and just eight minutes later it was Serrano again, who had the ball on in the six yard line handed it to Funetes who volleyed the ball and notched his first goal for his new team. But it wasn’t more then 9 minutes later (87th minute) when the Tsunami fouled midfielder Hany Helmy inside the 18 yard box rewarding the Storm with a penalty kick. Alex Harlley took the kick and put the last goal of the game in for a 3-1 win.

Storm: League record 5-2-2 alone in second place in the South Western Conference with 17 points behind San Diego Flash with 22 points

Jorge Serrano, Player of the Game

In only his second game Serrano has already made himself known. Saturday after a long trip to upper Northern California, Jorge in on the first minute and fourteen seconds of play put his new team up on the score board. It was  with a assist from Ricard Galvan, who recovered the ball in 18 yard line and gave it over the Serrano who put it in. Then for good measure in the 78th minute with  score tied Serrano was out side the box to the left of the keeper and volleyed a pass to Rafael Fuentes and in his first minute of ever playing with the team, turned and volleyed it in the back of the net for the second and winning goal. Missing starters Matt Shaxton , Defender Gregory Quintero ,  midfielder Wayne Lampart,  and forward Andres Bueno, from the trip the Storm shown the depth and strength in the bench and the quality of newly signed players.

Next Up: Because of a booking problem, the Storm’s next home game has been relocated to Golden Valley High School. Golden Valley High School is located at 27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway, Santa Clarita, close to the 14 freeway and off Golden Valley. Kick will remain at 5 p.m. and gates open at 4 p.m.
