We’re all in the Santa Clarita Valley, but not all of us are in Santa Clarita city. We can still call it Saugus, Newhall and Castaic - even Honby, if you can find it. There is that new place in the east called Canyon Country. The name started in the '60s but didn’t really take hold until much later.

A valedictorian of College of the Canyons' 2014 graduating class was one of ten students nationwide chosen to receive the 2014 Phi Theta Kappa Hites Transfer Scholarship award, college officials announced Wednesday. Jessie Warme, who is set to attend the University of California at San Diego in the fall, was selected from more than 2,200 applicants to be awarded with the $7,500 scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic achievement of Phi Theta Kappa members.

A Val Verde man accused of several burglaries, including a “hot prowl,” was charged with five counts related to theft and vandalism in Val Verde, according to court documents. Manuel Guerrero Cortez, 33, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a residential burglary that took place while the resident was home.

On August 17, 2014, deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a residence located within the unincorporated area of Santa Clarita (Westridge / Valencia). The victim reported she was contacted by her credit card company regarding a suspicious transaction. Deputies began the investigation and contacted station detectives. idtheftsuspect_2Station detectives learned that an unknown suspect used the victim’s personal information to bypass security questions. The unknown suspect requested that a replacement credit card be sent to the victim’s residence in Santa Clarita on expedited Fed-Ex shipping.
