Valencia, Zone 5

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Zone 5 (Valencia):

A robbery occurred near the intersection of Valencia Boulevard and Creekside Drive.  A male suspect threatened to hurt the victim by force if he did not give him his bicycle.  The victim relinquished his bicycle in fear the suspect would harm him.  The suspect made off with the victim’s gray bike with red hand grips.

A burglary occurred near the 27100 block of McBean Parkway.  An unknown male suspect cut off a padlock, to a gate and stole two high dollar electronic devices from the location.

An embezzlement theft occurred near the 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard.  An employee at the location had been depriving the store owner of accurate cash deposits nightly.  This case is currently under active investigation by our Detective Bureau.

A vehicle theft occurred near the 26100 block of Rockwell Canyon Road.  An unknown suspect stole a 2014 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck, white in color California license #74638L1.  This vehicle is still outstanding.

A grand theft occurred near the 28500 block of Westinghouse Place.  The victim left two high end bicycles locked in the bed of his truck overnight.  He had the bicycles secured with three chains and locks.  The following morning the victim walked out to his vehicle and observed his two bicycles from the bed of his truck were gone.

A few petty thefts occurred in the Valencia area.  In each case the victim’s left their items unsecured.  In each case the suspect(s) noticed the victim was vulnerable, and saw a moment to prey upon the victim’s.  Each victim had an electronic devise stolen from their property.

A bicycle theft occurred from the 26400 block of Rockwell Canyon Road.  An unknown suspect stole the victim’s bike parked near the bike rack.  The bicycle was not secured.

Two suspects were arrested by Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station for shoplifting during this time frame.  In each case deputies were able to recover the stolen items from the suspects and return it to the stores.

A theft occurred near the 24700 block of Riverchase Drive.  An unknown suspect stole a tool bag from the bed of the victim’s truck.  The victim left the items inside his truck bed overnight.  The following morning the victim was leaving for work when he realized his tools for work were missing.

This week as we finish up the summer months, I would like to take this time to remind my zone residents of the summer crime prevention tips.  Most thefts from motor vehicles are preventable. There are just a few things you need to do to prevent them. Once you realize the steps you need to take, we are counting on you to do them on a daily basis!

Practice T.L.C. Take Out Valuables. If you can leave your valuables at home, do so. Otherwise, upon reaching your destination, take your valuables with you. If you must leave them in your vehicle, place them in the trunk before you get to your destination.

Lock Your Vehicle – Enough said.

Close Doors & Windows An open door or window or window allows a thief a quick and quiet way to enter your vehicle.

Take the time to ensure you closed everything.

You might be surprised by what victims make available to thieves:

• Cameras, Laptops, Cell Phones • Car Stereos, Mail, CD’s, Purses

• Vehicle Registrations, Money, Jackets

• Gym Bags, Luggage, Briefcases

• Garage Door Openers,

SUMMER CRIME PREVENTION

Lastly I would like to offer a few other security tips to increase the security of your yard: • If you are working in the front yard, lock the back door and garage. If you are working in the backyard, lock the front door and garage.  • Don’t keep ladders or other equipment in the yard that could be used to gain access to your home.

• Keep shrubs, bushes, hedges, and fences to a height of three feet or less. • Solid fences can prevent neighbors from watching out for each other. Consider chain link or picket-type fencing. • Residential lighting should be used to light up home entry points.  Motion detector lights are an inexpensive deterrent for areas where continuous lighting is unnecessary.

SECURING THE INSIDE OF YOUR HOME

We are entering the season of leisurely activities and relaxing in the nice weather. Don’t be lulled into complacency when it comes to securing your home! If you leave your windows open for ventilation when during the hot days, learn how to “pin” your windows. “Pinning” your windows alights lows ventilation, but prevents a burglar from forcing it open further. While on that well deserved vacation, either stop your mail or ask a trusted neighbor to pick up your mail/papers and maintain your lawn. Use light timers which turn multiple lights on and off at predetermined times (copying your normal schedule).
