Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will fully close the northbound I-5 between Valley View Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue starting Monday, April 20 through Wednesday, April 22 each night from midnight to 4 a.m. Schedules closures are subject to change and/or cancellation. The following is a list of construction activities:
Northbound I-5

- Valley View Avenue and Alondra Boulevard on-ramps – FULLY CLOSED – Detour, go west on Firestone Boulevard to north Valley View Avenue, west to the Rosecrans Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5
Southbound I-5
Tuesday, April 21 and Wednesday, April 22 from midnight to 4 a.m.
- One of three lanes closed from Valley View Avenue to Rosecrans Avenue.
Local Street Lane Closure
Tuesday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- One lane closed on Eastbound Alondra Avenue between Firestone Boulevard to Freeway Drive
The overnight work involves k-rail placement, lane transition, installing traffic loops and striping the newly paved roadway starting Monday night. On Wednesday morning, April 22 the traveling public will notice the lane shift onto the newly completed pavement work between Valley View Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue.
The work is part of the $1 billion Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) South Corridor Improvement Projects to construct one carpool and one general purpose lane in each direction from the Los Angeles/Orange County line to Interstate 605. Detour signs and Changeable Message Signs will be place. Motorists should anticipate delays, plan ahead and use alternate routes. Caltrans advised motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.”
