cocucen_university centerCollege of Canyons has received an Outstanding Achievement Award by the South Bay Workforce Investment Board for attaining a placement rate of 100 percent of its graduates from the Computer Numerically Controlled Operator Program offered through the CNC Fast Track.

The award was given at the SBWIB Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony, Oct. 13, 2016 held in Torrance, CA.

“We are honored to have received this award, which is a reflection of the high-quality of our Fast Track courses and our job placement efforts,” said Michael Bastine, director of the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT) at the college. “Our CNC manufacturing programs were created to provide students with real-world and hands-on experience in order to make them more competitive when entering the workforce.”

The Fast Track CNC Machinist Training Program at COC is designed for students seeking entry-level jobs in the CNC manufacturing industry.

CNC machinists use CNC machine tools to create precision metal parts and necessary cuts to complete an operation or to create a complete part. Operating CNC machines, which follow a computer program, requires the use of complex operations and great attention to detail.

CACT hosts a job fair with local manufacturing companies to allow recent CNC machinist graduates the opportunity to be interviewed by company representatives, often leading to on-the-spot job offers.

CNC Fast Track graduates have gone on to work for various companies such as SpaceX, Aerotek, Aerospace Dynamics International Inc., Paragon Precision Inc., and RAH Industries.
