One 17-year-old died and another sustained critical injuries in a solo car crash Friday night on Sierra Highway between Acton and Palmdale.
The crash occurred at 10 p.m. south of Pearblossom Highway.
The driver, a 17-year-old girl, was allegedly intoxicated as she drove her 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer northbound on Sierra Highway at an estimated 70 mph.
According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve “due to her intoxicated state” and overcorrected, crossing all lanes and crashing into the opposing guard rail.
Her sole passenger, a 17-year-old boy in the right front seat, died as a result of blunt force trauma sustained on impact.
The girl punctured her right lung and broke her collarbone. Her injuries were described as major, and she was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital.
Weather conditions were windy and cold but clear at the time of the crash.
The driver’s name has not been released due to her age, and the passenger’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Both lived in Lancaster.
