Guest celebrities are expected to add an extra dimension to this year’s SCV Senior Center Celebrity Waiter dinner, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. Theme for this year’s event is Journey Through Television, and the planning committee is reaching out to celebrities from television, film and music to sit at sponsored tables and interact with local guests.

At the top of this year’s celebrity list is Tippi Hedren, famous for her starring role in Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” and operator of the Shambala wildlife preserve. Charles Howerton, who is best known for his Grumpy Grandpa role in Oscar Mayer commercials, will also attend.

Table sponsors will decorate their tables and encourage guests to come in costume to carry out their individual table themes. Themes already selected include “Happy Days,” “Walking Dead,” “Duck Dynasty,” “Touched by an Angel,” “Sex & the City,” “NCIS,” “MPTV Academy Award Night,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

In addition to being the community’s foremost costume party, the Celebrity Waiter dinner features a live band for dancing, onstage entertainment and a live auction. Auction items include a one-week stay at the Mayan Palace Resort near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for four people; an entertainment package of dining and theater tickets; a barbecue for up to 30 guests at the Sand Canyon home of former Mayor Bob and Kathy Kellar; private flight and lunch for two from Agua Dulce to the Santa Barbara area; a week in a two-bedroom condo in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; a Princess cruise to Mexico or the Caribbean; and a week in a fully equipped Maui beach house that sleeps 10 guests.

Another auction winner will participate in The Ultimate Driving Experience, an opportunity for six lucky drivers to train for and race professional NASCAR stock cars on the Toyota Speedway in Irwindale. More practical buyers may choose one of two marital trusts, and the whole family can enjoy four Disneyland Resort one-day Park Hopper Tickets, including admission to the Magic Kingdom and Disney California Adventure Park. The honor to be the head table at the 2015 Celebrity Waiter dinner also will be on the auction block, and other unique items are still being packaged.

The introduction of the “celebrity” waiters to the crowd is always a surprise and fun experience. Guests can help their waiter earn the Favorite Waiter award by purchasing scrip to “tip” the waiter for special perks and antics throughout the evening. A number of waiters also are participating in pre-event fundraising, which is added to their “tip” income when selecting the Favorite Waiter.

The Celebrity Waiter dinner is one of the SCV Senior Center’s top fundraising events. Proceeds help to support such services as Home Delivered Meals, reassurance telephone calls, educational and support groups, the Handyworker Program, Supportive Services and many other programs delivered at the center itself or carried to the homes of elderly people in the local community.

The event is nearly sold out, but a few $100 individual tickets are still available. Table reservations or additional information are available on the event website at www.scv-seniorcenter.org/Events, by mail at SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Santa Clarita 91321, or by calling Pamela at (661) 259-9444, Ext. 141.

Door open for early check-in at 4:30 p.m., and doors to the main dining room will open at 5 p.m.
