The College of the Canyons Job and Career Center will host its annual fall Job & Career Fair providing job seekers with employment opportunities in various industries and career fields.
The Job & Career fair is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the East P.E. gymnasium, located on the college’s Valencia campus.
The fair, which is free and open to the public, will feature a variety of employers seeking to fill entry, middle and upper level job opportunities, along with several free workshops.
Once again, the fair’s very successful “virtual corner” sponsored by KHTS, will allow job seekers to apply for jobs with companies unable to attend this year’s job fair.
“Job fairs are still a great way to search for employment opportunities,” said Anthony Michaelides, director of job & career services at the college. “Where else can you meet with more than 50 employers, all in one place and at the same time? You must have an agenda, including questions to engage the employer, a strategy to visit every booth and a professional script to introduce yourself. Common mistakes include skipping companies, racing through too fast, and attending unprepared.
“Because many companies will direct job seekers to apply to jobs online, Job Fair attendees are encouraged to visit the websites of companies who will be present at the fair and apply to jobs before the day of the event,” added Michaelides.
In the week leading up to the job fair, the College of the Canyons Job & Career Center will host a pair of Resume Rally events where students and community members can have their resume critiqued, or create a new resume, in advance of the college’s upcoming Job & Career Fair.
Resume Rallies events are scheduled for the following dates and times:
* 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, Valencia Campus (Student Center staff dining room).
* 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, Canyon Country Campus (Quad 1, Bldg. B).
Both events are free to all students and community members and no appointments needed so you can drop in anytime during the event.
For the Resume Rally event, attendees without student parking passes should be prepared to purchase a one-day pass for $3, or print out a Resume Rally flyer from the college’s Career Services website and place it on their car’s dashboard on the day of the event.
