A small earthquake shook Santa Clarita Thursday at 6:08 p.m.

Caltech reported a magnitude of 2.6, then increased it to 2.7.

USGS mapping shows the quake struck in Placerita Canyon, inside the city of Santa Clarita.

It was felt throughout the city but no trouble was immediately reported.

  19. Felt it quite strongly. I’m near the hospital. It was very loud and shook the house pretty good! I knew it was close by. Been through some big quakes, Sylmar and Northridge pretty bad. I didn’t sleep too well last night. But we’re just fine. We always seem to make it ok.

    Probably the Placerita Fault, a relatively small offshoot or parallel fault near the San Gabriel Fault. The San Gabriel fault is thought to be an ancestral (aka now dormant) trace of the original path of the San Andreas Fault.
