A total of 17 submissions were received by the City for its first-ever holiday card contest and the winner is … Valencia High School graduate Amanda Chakur. Chakur’s digital illustration, “Peace on Earth,” will be featured on the City’s 2011 holiday card.
The City’s 2011 holiday card contest sought submissions in any medium with the theme: “Peace on Earth.” The City received a variety of works of art including some in the paint, pencil medium, as well as abstract designs. Selected artwork submitted for consideration will be displayed at City Hall on the First Floor Gallery from Thanksgiving through New Year’s.
“We have so many talented artists in Santa Clarita. It is important that we continue to foster their creativity and offer opportunities for artists to present their works in a wide variety of ways in our City,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean.
The City requested that all submissions for the City’s 2011 holiday card contest be entirely original work by the submitting artist and not include any copyrighted images or likenesses.
Amanda Chakur of Santa Clarita is a recent graduate of the Art Institute of California at San Diego. She is 23 years old and was raised in Santa Clarita. The winning holiday card art will also be featured on the City’s website during the holidays at www.santa-clarita.com.
